Chrissy Nickerson

I paint like me.

My mother raised me in the Canadian tradition of the Algonquin school of pleinair painting.  As a young person, I was fortunate to secure my roots in oil while doing my time at NSCAD.  Now as career painter of 45, I try to remember, I paint like me.

I am a regional painter.  Through experience, I reflect on place with pencil or pen in my sketchbook.  In the summers I still pull out a French easel. My studio practice is based around large oils that I like to think of as tapestries of colour and texture.

Experimentation keeps me interested in paint. Wether I am playing with materials, mark-making or subject matter I like to challenge myself.  I am consistently inconsistent.   Painting where the alpine meets water is an experience of beauty, while painting more urban environments provides me with fresh a perspective of compositions.

My art practice is about moving paint around while exploring and learning about the world we live in, Here and Now.
