CKG is thrilled to be kicking off our fall line-up with Calgary's JoAnn Godenir's second solo exhibition at the gallery - "Let Go Lightly."
Drawing from her experiences at a residency in France earlier this year, JoAnn's new body of work has pushed her to stretch and grow in her creative practice, take more risks and fully appreciate the care that goes into making art - hence her choice of title.
With an expanded palette of carefully layered tone-on-tone this new series endeavours to give you the feeling of a warm worn blanket, allowing us to sink into each piece gradually while taking in each layer both individiaully and as a grand whole. As a master of colour JoAnn's colours are both fresh and nostalgic, soft yet at times graphic - a balance that is surely not as effortless as it appears.
