Biography

Chris Kuzmanovich is a Calgary-based artist whose abstract paintings are informed by a background in interior design and a deep sensitivity to space, structure, and balance. Originally from the Northwest Territories, Kuzmanovich brings a measured, spatial awareness to his work that reflects both northern restraint and architectural clarity.

He studied interior design at Mount Royal College and spent several years working in the field before founding his own design firm, CVK, in 2007. Painting emerged more than a decade ago as a self-reflexive counterpoint to his design practice, evolving into a rigorous and intuitive studio language of its own.

Kuzmanovich is known for bold abstract compositions that often suggest architectural forms, fragments, and facades without resolving into representation. Hard edges and structural gestures sit alongside painterly moments, creating tension between precision and instinct. His works balance control and release, order and improvisation, inviting viewers to experience space emotionally rather than functionally.

For collectors, Kuzmanovich’s paintings offer a refined intersection of art and design, grounded in spatial intelligence and executed with confidence and restraint. His work resonates equally in architectural interiors and contemplative settings, rewarding sustained looking and thoughtful placement.
